Valkyrie, aka Kairi Imahara, is Apex’s latest legend. She is the daughter of Viper, a Titan pilot from Titanfall 2 who was also a member of Blisk’s Apex Predators mercenary group (if you want a full breakdown of Valkyrie’s past, check out my lore video) Valkyrie Enters the Apex Games with a modified Titan Northstar kit that grants him more horizontal movement. She has more than one passive: there are her Vtol Jets which allow her to leap into the air and maneuver, and there is her ability to scan enemies in the air when deploying or redeploying.
Valk’s tactical ability is a swarm of missiles that targets a small area with rockets that will stun and slow enemies on hit. His Ultimate Skyward Dive allows him and his teammates to launch into the air and redeploy, which also reactivates his passive to scan enemies from the air.
Arena is a permanent 3v3 mode where the first team to win 3 rounds and earn the match point will be the winner. Its format is completely different from the Apex Battle Royale: two teams of three compete against each other and the objective is to eliminate the other. If you are downed in this mode, you can be revived, but you cannot be respawned if you die completely (you can be brought back on the next turn if that happens).
Maps in Arena are smaller and contain two new custom maps called Party Crasher (the area where Mirage Voyage crashed) and Phase Runner (an abandoned construction site on Talos). Arena maps also include three existing Battle Royale map locations World’s Edge Spa, Olympus’ Golden Gardens, and Kings Canyon Artillery.
At the start of Arenas you choose your legend as usual, but before each round there is a buy phase where you can choose your weapons, gear and ability charges (think Counterstrike / Valorant / Rogue Company ). Unlike Battle Royale, your abilities and ultimate don’t recharge over time and you have to purchase “charges” to use your abilities and ultimate. During the purchase phase, you can upgrade your weapons and customize your weapon sights to your liking (if you have enough materials). Every playable legend in Apex Legends, however, unlike Counterstrike or other shooters in tactical team, your weapons will not carry over from the previous round even if you win, so choose your equipment carefully as you have limited amounts of materials to purchase. You can earn more materials from canisters on the map, get kills, and earn towers. Each turn there is a care package containing three weapons, and it is revealed which weapons will drop in the shop during the buy phase. Ranked Arenas will be available in future updates, but there is no official release date yet. Arenas will have its own skill-based matchmaking separate from Battle Royale.
All playable legends in Apex Legends
Legacy brings a whole new weapon to the Titanfall and Apex universe, and it’s a great mid-range weapon. The Bocek Bow is extremely quiet, although not completely silent. You can find arrows for the bow all around the map, and you can collect arrows you’ve fired, including those in your enemies’ bodies. The Bocek has two slots for hop-ups: the Deadeye’s Tempo and Shatter Caps. Deadeye’s tempo allows you to draw faster when shooting at the perfect tempo. You can keep track of your pace by looking in the middle of your screen or moving away from the sight; a meter is displayed when you reach your perfect tempo. The Deadeye’s Tempo hop up can also be used on the Sentinel Sniper Rifle. The Shatter Caps hop-up turns your arrows into a flurry, spreading out like a shotgun blast. This hop-up can also be used on the 30-30 repeater. On the Bocek Bow, both of these hop-ups can be equipped at the same time, and you can switch between the two by toggling the alt-fire hotkey. The Bocek Bow is surprisingly accurate and you can equip the holo, 1x, 2x, 1-2x, and 3x sights on the weapon at your preferred range, although there is a noticeable decrease at longer ranges.
Olympus has been taken over by a fleet of derelict ships and brought with them a strange parasitic plant that has begun to sprout across the map. There are a few new points of interest, including a docked ship called The Icarus which now sits between Bonsai Plaza and Orbital Canon. Inside this ship you will be able to find the corpses of dead scientists who were on board and find keycards that will give you access to a special locked area of the ship that rewards the best loot in that area.
Map rotations for Ranked will begin with World’s Edge in the First Division and the Second Division will bring players back to Olympus. The ranked points and system will remain the same for this season.
Although we don’t have the official patch notes yet, it’s been confirmed that Low Profile on Little Legends is officially gone. For example, Wraith no longer has Low Profile with its adjusted hitbox from last season. Octane’s Stim ability will take more health when used, Horizon’s Gravity Lift will now have a slower climb speed, and she will no longer be able to strafe atop quickly. Lifeline’s Combat Resurrection is now shieldless, but still uses her drone and her ultimate now drops shield batteries and gun attachments and better overall loot. Fuse’s joint group now has two charges, Loba’s teleport bracelet has been adjusted so she can move at full speed while throwing the jump, and Crypto can open care packages with her drone.
