GTA RP client FiveM continues to go from strength to strength. The modders behind it took to Twitter (below) to reveal that the mod peaked at 250,000 concurrent players over the weekend. If you’re wondering how this compares to Grand Theft Auto V, which includes GTA Online, Rockstar’s detective game peaked at 124,000 players in the last 24 hours and around 88,000 this weekend on Steam, according to SteamDB (thanks , Full Throttle).
One of the main drivers of FiveM’s success will likely be GTA RP. Ever since popular server NoPixel rolled out its 3.0 update, Twitch streamers such as xQc, Summit1G, and SodaPoppin have given the scene more exposure by streaming role-playing games. GTA 5 even managed to overtake the Twitch directory on the back of the new NoPixel update.
GTA RP allows for good viewing due to the type of stories it produces. The rules are strict, so if you shoot down another player, their character will cease to exist and you will be held accountable by a policeman who is also played by someone else. One streamer even took a break because maintaining too many jobs in GTA RP was becoming too much like having one in real life. It still gets ridiculous, though – one player got into roleplaying as Johnny Silverhand, trouble and all.
Of course, FiveM is more than GTA RP. FiveM is, by design, a modification of Grand Theft Auto 5 that allows you to play multiplayer on custom dedicated servers. GTA RP is one of them, but we also have one for Red Dead Online. You also have plenty of dedicated servers for GTA Online races and mini-games. It’s also worth mentioning that while FiveM proves to be more popular than GTA 5 on Steam, the player count figures for the Valve platform do not include players from the Rockstar Launcher or the Epic Games Store. GTA V was an Epic giveaway last year, giving it a record boost.
