GTA 6 is still nowhere to be found; the game hasn’t even been announced yet.
However, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating and creating their own wishlist of things they want to see in the game.
And, at least judging by users on the GTA sub-Reddit, gamers can almost universally agree on one thing: that they hope Rockstar Games gets it right in the upcoming GTA 6.
What fans want to see in GTA 6
In a post on the GTA 6 sub-Reddit, a member asked what players were looking forward to the most, and the winning choice in the poll was ‘open world/free roaming’.
GTA V saw the game return to Los Santos – based on Los Angeles and also the setting of GTA: San Andreas.
The city is very accurately recreated based on different parts of Los Angeles, with key parts of the city and county easily spotted in-game.
And one aspect that players have praised over the years is the immersion offered by the map.
The NPCs are just going about their daily business, whether it’s strolling the beach, doing maintenance, or just doing daily chores. The game makes you feel like you are in a city full of life and adventures.
GTA V is now over seven years old, having first been released in 2013, and a lot has changed in terms of technology and what developers are now able to create.
Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018, took it a step further and really improved the immersion aspect of the game.
The game sees NPCs living normal lives as one would expect for the set period of time.
By following them, we can see what a day looks like for these characters and most are unique to each other.
Most NPCs will wake up in the morning, then do whatever chores they might need, like chopping wood for the fire, before heading off to work.
At lunchtime, you might see them sneaking in for a cheeky pint before heading back to work.
In the evening they could head to the Saloon for one more drink and social interaction. These characters live full, fulfilling lives, and they’re just programmed NPCs.
To do this on such a large scale is a massive undertaking, but Rockstar has done it.
Now, we are three years after Red Dead Redemption 2, a new generation of consoles is here and PC technology is constantly improving. Therefore, gamers have very high hopes for the next entry in the GTA series.
Fans of the series hope for RDR2 immersion but have dialed up to 11.
RDR2’s map is pretty sterile by GTA’s standard. There’s no bustling city that could house millions of people if it were real, but that’s due to the time period the game is set in.
But we know Rockstar never looks back and we don’t think they’ll start with GTA 6.
With their new patented AI NPC capabilities, we can expect to see that level of immersion increase for GTA 6.
Players will be able to get lost in any city the game takes place in, which is said to be Vice City.
As of now, GTA 6 has yet to be announced, but it is rumored that it will be officially revealed later this year, with a 2023 release date, although this is unconfirmed.
