How photo grading works
Let’s talk about the notes on the photos first! Each photo has two rating factors – star rating and a numerical score – which are completely separate! The star rating represents the behavioral rarity of the Pokemon you captured, and the score – the quality of the photo – affects the color of those stars – Bronze, Silver, Gold or Diamond. You need a score of 4000 or more to get a Diamond rating!
Pokémon have many behaviors
There are often multiple ways to capture a photo of each star rating, so don’t worry too much about trying to perfect a particular photograph because more often than not you’ll find better opportunities the further you progress through the different research levels of the course. .
How to easily get 2 star photos
Generally, most Pokemon will show 2-star behavior if you scan it or bop it with a Fluffruit. Pose scores won’t be the best it can be, but it’s an easy way to add some new behavior to your Photodex!
More Uses of Fluffruit
Useful for more than just feeding and surprising Pokémon, try using Fluffruit to lure certain Pokémon to new locations to trigger all-new reactions and behaviors.
Size Matters
Of all the criteria in the photo rating section, size is the most important. You can get up to 2000 points depending on the size of a Pokemon in your shot, while direction and placement only goes up to 1000, and the rest is usually always under 1000, except of the rarest of Pokemon, which get a huge bonus to Pose no matter what they do.
Timing is everything for pose score
You’ll get stars for your photos based on a Pokemon’s behavior alone, but you need to time it correctly if you want to get a high pose score. You’ll get more pose points for capturing mid-action behavior like when Pikipek hits a tree compared to pausing.
Extra Pokémon are a bonus, not a goal
It’s a bit difficult to plan a good shot with additional Pokémon – which also need to be tall and clear to score well – and a nice background, like the flower field in the park or the waterfall in the jungle, so we suggest taking them. treat them as nice bonuses rather than aiming specifically for them.
LenTalk Indices
LenTalk side quests are usually clues to capture hidden Pokémon or rare behaviors – but some of them also offer stickers and other decorations for your photos. You’ll need to submit the photo for evaluation to Professor Mirror at the end of a class, and the timing has to be just about perfect for it to count.
How to skip the assessment
Hold A to cycle through all notes after submitting your photos! However, you might miss some interesting comments from Professor Mirror.
How to increase the wanted level
You’ll get the most Expedition Points from photos of new Pokemon and/or recording new behaviors on that particular course. If you choose between different star-rated photos that will be duplicates, choose the photo with the most improvement over the previous one – you get points for the difference! However, keep in mind that maxing out a course’s research level beyond level 3 doesn’t add anything specifically new to the course, but you will get a research title for doing so.
Change the level of a course
You can choose the quest level you play on a course after reaching new levels! To do this, press X while hovering over a course option. Sometimes it’s worth replaying a course at a lower level when certain Pokémon actions are highlighted. It’s good to give it a try if you see your XP gain slowing exponentially.
Resnap NOW
Don’t forget to use the Resnap feature to adjust things like focus and positioning right after you submit your photos! You won’t be able to do this later, but you can always add fun stickers, frames, and filters to them later.
Look at the photo counter
If you run out of photo film during a class, it will end! Unless it’s your first time there, you’ll have to complete the course without taking any more photos.
Increase reticle speed
Be sure to change the camera speed and pointer speed in the settings to speed up the turns! You can also change the settings so you can shoot with the right bumper instead of A. Why not ZR like all FPS? Who knows.
Smoother controls
Using the two sticks to control the photo frame and pointer can get tedious and cumbersome, fast. Try using only one or the other instead!
How to do a 180
Use the control pad to turn quickly – down for an immediate 180 and left or right for faster-than-normal turns.
Scan often
Scan often when exploring each course for the first time, because you’ll be surprised how often you’ll find Pokémon hidden in areas you might not have originally thought of!
follow the path
If a Pokémon flies or runs in a certain direction, watch its path. It will often stop somewhere (or seem close enough) for you to take a good shot of.
Unlock a new Pokémon behavior
The habits and colors of Pokémon change even on a course of the same level! Keep looking around (especially behind you) as you replay! Some Pokemon can even follow you around, providing the perfect photo op, and some special Pokemon interactions only happen after the NEO-ONE leaves an area in higher tiers. Look behind you and be ready to take a photo.
keep your ears open
As you go through each course, be sure to listen carefully to the audio cues. These clues will usually indicate that a Pokemon in the area has a unique behavior. You will also occasionally hear from Professor Mirror and the rest of the research team, who will often provide small but useful advice as you address areas of interest.
Always submit photos
Finally, always send your photos, even if you think they are not very good. You can still get points for them.
